Vol nsrds-nbs3sec5: Selected tables of atomic spectra - A atomic energy levels-second edition, B multiplet tables: N I, N II, N III - data derived from the analyses of optical spectra by Moore, Charlotte E. Spectroscopy / s p ɛ k ˈ t r ɒ s k ə p i / is the study of the interaction between matter and electromagnetic radiation (via electron spectroscopy, atomic spectroscopy, etc). Historically, spectroscopy originated through the study of visible light dispersed according to its wavelength, by a prism.

The operation and current work of the NBS Atomic Energy Levels Data Center is reviewed briefly, and some of the other activities of this type, at NBS and elsewhere, are noted. The data include atomic wavelengths, energy levels, transition probabilities and line Author: W.C. Martin. The present publication is the second Section of a series being prepared in response to the increasing demand for a current revision of two sets of tables containing data on atomic spectra as.

Rydberg Series in Atoms and Molecules deals with the Rydberg states of atomic and molecular systems. Rydberg series in atomic spectra and of diatomic molecules are examined, along with Rydberg terms of polyatomic molecules such as hydrocarbons with triple bonds, hydrocarbon molecules with double bonds, and benzene and benzene derivatives. This book presents physical units and widely used physical formulas, which are given together with conversion factors in various units. It includes frequently used atomic spectra and data for atoms, ions and molecules, as well as potential curves for diatomic molecules, and provides numerical parameters for transport phenomena in gases and plasmas.

Atomic spectra Light emitted or absorbed by single atoms contributes only very little to the colours of our surroundings.

Neon signs (or other gas discharge tubes) as used for advertising, sodium or mercury vapour lamps show atomic emission; the colours of fireworks are due to it.

CHAPTER 7 ATOMIC SPECTRA Introduction Atomic spectroscopy is, of course, a vast subject, and there is no intention in this brief chapter of attempting to cover such a huge field with any degree of completeness, and it is not intended to serve as a formal course in spectroscopy.

For such a task a thousand pages would make a good start. Both the interpretation of atomic spectra and the application of atomic spectroscopy to current problems in astrophysics, laser physics, and thermonuclear plasmas require a thorough knowledge of the Slater-Condon theory of atomic structure and spectra.

This book gathers together aspects of the theory that are widely scattered in the literature and augments them to produce a coherent set of Reviews: 2.Atomic Spectroscopy Intro - Outlines basic atomic physics concepts, explains terminology and notation.
